Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Requirements

We are required by law to verify your identity and address. To do this:

  • you will need to provide us with information that proves your identity and address; and
  • we will need to verify that information.

We can verify the information electronically (the easiest and fastest option) or manually.

 

What is identity information?

This is photographic ID with your name and date of birth on it. Documents include your current:

  • Passport
  • Driver’s licence
  • National identity card
  • Firearm’s licence
  • SuperGold card (if it has a picture of you on it)

 

What is address information?

This is a document with your residential address on it. Documents include the following dated within the last 12 months:

  • Bank statement
  • Insurance policy
  • Utility bill
  • Rates bill
  • A statement from a government body like Inland Revenue, MSD, or Electoral Commission
  • Retirement home or care agreement or a letter from the facility manager
  • A letter from your hospital or doctor
  • SuperGold card (if it has your residential address on it)

 

If I don’t have NZ identity or address documents

We will need to verify your identity or address manually.

 

Bank Account Details – do we require them?

If you are making a withdrawal or investing for a regular retirement income with our Lifetime Retirement Income Fund, then yes.

Beore we can withdraw your funds, we will need to confirm that the funds will be paid into a bank account in your name. If you are investing into Lifetime Retirement Income, we will need this as part of your application to join. For any other fund, we will ask for this as part of your withdrawal application.

 

What can be provided for Bank information?

This can be confirmed by simply providing us with a bank statement or deposit slip showing your name and nominated bank account number.

 

How can you provide us with copies of documents we need?

You can:

  • Upload the documents online when completing your application form
  • Email us the documents to: retire@lifetimeincome.co.nz
  • Post us the documents to: PO Box 10760, Wellington, 6140 or Level 3, 120 Featherston St, Wellington Central, Wellington 6011

 

How does electronic verification work?

Step 1 - Provide us with copies of your NZ drivers licence or passport and, address documents.

Step 2 - We will securely authenticate that information against identity and address information through databases maintained by the NZ government or in accordance with law. These include:

  • DIA and NZTA databases
  • Credit bureaus
  • Electoral rolls
  • Utility company records

Step 3 – We will confirm once your information has been verified and AML/CFT requirements have been met. If we need further information, we will let you know.

 

How does manual verification work?

Step 1 – Get copies of your identity and address documents certified by an authorised individual.

Step 2 - Provide us with the certified copies of your identity and address documents.

Step 3 – We will confirm we have received the certified documents and AML/CFT requirements have been met. If we need further information, we will let you know.

 

What is a certified copy?

A certified copy is a photocopy of an original document. A person who is authorised to certify documents must sight the original and copy in person, and make sure both documents are identical. Any certified documentation you send to us must include the certifier’s full name, occupation, signature, and dated by the certifier within the last three months.

 

  • If the identification has a photo image, the certifier must state on the copy:

I certify this to be a true copy of the original which I have sighted and the photo represents a true likeness of the person presenting the document for certification”.

  • If the identification does not have a photo image (e.g. address document), the certifier must sight the original and state on the copy:

I certify this to be a true copy of the original whicch I have sighted and represents the identity of the person presenting the document to me for certification”.

 

Who can certify my identity or address documents?

The following persons can certify copies of the originals as true and correct copies:

  • Lifetime staff member
  • A financial advice provider authorised by Lifetime
  • Justice of the peace
  • Lawyer
  • Registered medical doctor
  • Chartered accountant
  • Registered teacher
  • Minister of religion
  • Member of parliament
  • Commonwealth representative
  • Notary public
  • Kaumātua
  • Sworn member of the police
  • A person who has legal authority to take statutory declarations (or equivalent in New Zealand)

 

In addition, the certifier must not be related to you or live at the same address as you.

Ensure you have both sides of any double sided identification certified, as we need evidence of full name, signature, and expiry date.
